Initial Thoughts on Macross Plus
sleepysundaymorningramblesJust finished Vol. 1 of Macross Plus. Awesome visuals for the time— super duper melodrama though. Sinichiro Wantanabe was certainly showing potential. My first venture into the Macross universe; it’s got me thinking that Macross 25 might be worth checking out. After all, Yoko Kanno produced it, and like Wantanabe, her work in Cowboy Bebop means she can do no wrong.
Gundam Forever (or at least six stories high)
Here’s a modern sculpture w/ geek appeal: This Gundam statue is “life size!”
For those of you who don’t know about Gundam, prepare for a Wikipedia blitz. Gundam is a name attributed to long running and related manga and anime series beginning in 1979. For thirty years and two months, Gundam’s been bringing its fans in Japan, the US and around the world action-packed science-fictions tales of giant robots and the warriors that pilot them. And while the idea of a six story robot seemed larger than life for most of the series faithful, it seems that at least in terms of a concept model, it’s obviously caught up with them.
The info? The statue is of the original RX-78-2 Gundam robot and sits in Odaiba’s Shiokaze Park, on the Island of Odaiba, Tokyo. To check out the toy this statue is based on, click here.
